    Professional Driveway Cleaning in Reading

Block paving driveway in Reading after professional driveway cleaning

Driveways take the heaviest use of any surface on a property: vehicle weight, tyre wear, oil drips, standing water and constant algae growth along the shaded edges. Every driveway is assessed for its material, joints, drainage and edge restraints before a cleaning method is agreed.

We proudly serve Reading and surrounding areas including Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames, Marlow, Crowthorne, Hook, Pangbourne, Tadley, and Basingstoke.

Many customers also book our Window Cleaning service. Commercial clients can view our Commercial Cleaning services.

Driveway materials behave differently. Concrete block paviours are laid on a sand bed with sand-filled joints, so the cleaning pressure has to lift dirt without emptying every joint. Poured and slab concrete is more tolerant, but spalling or frost-damaged concrete will shed further material under a strong jet. Tarmac is bound with bitumen that high pressure can loosen, so it is cleaned at reduced pressure only where the surface is sound. Resin-bound and natural stone drives are checked individually — loose aggregate or soft stone means a gentler method or, occasionally, a declined quotation.

Drainage decides where the dirt goes. Before starting, we identify the fall of the drive, the position of any channel drain, gully or soakaway, and whether the runoff would otherwise travel towards a garage threshold, an air brick, a door seal or a neighbouring property. Slurry lifted off a driveway has to be flushed somewhere deliberate, not simply pushed to the lowest point.

Edges and restraints need protecting. The perimeter of a block driveway is held by edging courses bedded in concrete. Where an edge has already lifted or the haunching has failed, aiming a rotary cleaner along that line can wash out the bedding beneath. Those areas are cleaned by hand at lower pressure, and any movement found is reported to you rather than worked over.

Block paving and joint sand. Cleaning block paving inevitably disturbs the kiln-dried sand in the joints — that is unavoidable, not a fault of the method. Re-sanding is therefore offered as a separate, optional item rather than assumed: if you want the joints re-filled with kiln-dried sand after the surface has dried, it is added to your quotation as its own line. Sealing is likewise optional, only carried out on a suitable and fully dry surface, and never included by default.

This page covers driveways specifically. Paved seating areas are handled differently and are covered on our patio cleaning page, and for the full range of hard surfaces see our pressure washing services in Reading.

    What's Included

    • Cleaning of the driveway area agreed in the quotation
    • Hand-detailing of edges, edging courses and channel drains
    • Removal of loose weeds and moss dislodged during cleaning
    • Rinsing down and clearing displaced silt from the working area
    • Report on any lifted blocks, failed haunching or damaged concrete found

    Our Process

A rotary flat-surface cleaner is used where the material can take it, because it holds a fixed distance and produces an even result instead of lance striping. Softer stone, tarmac and drives with weak jointing are cleaned at reduced pressure or with a chemical treatment instead. Nothing is cleaned at a pressure the surface cannot take simply to speed the job up.

    1. 1Assess material, joints, drainage, edge restraints and access
    2. 2Move what can safely be moved and protect thresholds, seals and planting
    3. 3Pre-treat heavy algae or moss so it lifts at lower pressure
    4. 4Clean in overlapping passes at the pressure agreed for the material
    5. 5Hand-detail edges, channel drains and awkward corners
    6. 6Rinse, clear silt from the working area and walk the finished drive

    Safety & Standards

    • Pressure matched to the material, not applied at one fixed setting
    • Failed edging, loose blocks and spalling concrete reported, not blasted
    • Runoff directed deliberately, away from thresholds, air bricks and boundaries
    • Owner-operated and fully insured
