Conservatory Cleaning in Reading
Roof panels, glass, frames and sills cleaned with purified water and water-fed poles across Reading and Berkshire. Glass and polycarbonate roofs are cleaned from ground level — nobody walks on your roof.
Most conservatories lose their brightness gradually, as algae and organic film build up on the roof panels. What gets cleaned on your conservatory depends on its style, condition, access and the quotation you agree — it is set out in writing before any work is booked.
What Conservatory Cleaning Can Include
Not every element applies to every conservatory. The list below is what can be covered, and your quotation confirms which parts are included for your property.
Conservatory roof panels
Glass and polycarbonate roof panels cleaned from the outside to lift algae, moss film, sap and general weathering — the part that makes the biggest difference to the light inside.
Conservatory glass
The external glass on the side elevations and doors, cleaned with purified water so it dries clear rather than spotted.
Frames and glazing bars
UPVC frames, roof bars, ridge trims and door surrounds washed with a soft brush to remove green film and weather marking.
Sills and upstands
Window sills and the low brick or UPVC upstand around the base, where splash-back dirt and algae collect.
Conservatory gutters and trims
The exterior of the small guttering and downpipes around the conservatory, where they are present and can be reached safely.
Finials and cresting
Decorative ridge finials and cresting on Victorian and Edwardian-style conservatories, cleaned where the fittings are sound.
Conservatory Roof Cleaning
The roof is where the difference is most obvious. Algae, moss film, sap and bird droppings sit on top of glass and polycarbonate panels and block a surprising amount of daylight before anyone really notices it happening.
Panels are cleaned from the outside using a soft brush head and purified water on a water-fed pole, working from ground level. Roof channels and glazing bars are cleared of loose debris as part of the same pass where they can be reached. Where the staining will not shift with water alone, a suitable cleaning solution is used instead of increasing pressure on the glazing and seals.
Glass, Frames & Sills
Below the roof, the side glass, UPVC frames, glazing bars, door surrounds and sills are washed with the same purified water so the whole structure looks finished rather than half done.
Black weather streaking on white UPVC and algae along the sills and upstand are surface staining in most cases and lift with soft brushing. Plastic that has already faded or oxidised from long-term UV exposure will look better but is not repainted or restored — that is made clear when quoting. This works well alongside our window cleaning service when the rest of the house is being done at the same time, and with a dedicated clean of the UPVC frames and sills elsewhere on the property.

Common Problems Customers Want Removed
The damp Thames Valley climate and mature tree cover across much of Reading make conservatories particularly prone to organic growth.
- Green algae across polycarbonate roof panels, particularly on shaded or tree-lined plots.
- Moss and organic debris sitting in the roof channels and along the glazing bars.
- Bird droppings and tree sap baked onto glass roofs over the summer.
- Black weather streaking down white UPVC frames and glazing bars.
- Water marking and mineral spotting on the external glass.
- Dirt and algae along the sills, upstand and the base of the frames.
How the Work Is Assessed and Quoted
Every conservatory is looked at before a method or a price is agreed, and the same person carries out the work.
1. Look at the conservatory first
The roof type, frame condition, access route and how heavy the soiling is are all checked before a price or a method is agreed. Cracked panels, failed seals or loose trims are pointed out rather than washed over.
2. Agree the scope with you
Some jobs are roof only, some are roof, glass, frames and sills, some include the conservatory guttering. What is being cleaned is set out in the quotation so there are no assumptions on either side.
3. Work from the ground where possible
A water-fed pole system reaches most conservatory roofs from ground level. Nobody needs to walk on roof panels, which are not designed to take weight.
4. Soft brushing with purified water
A soft brush head and purified water lift the dirt without abrasion. Purified water alone is enough for a large proportion of conservatory work.
5. Cleaning solution only where it is needed
Where algae or heavy staining will not lift with water alone, a suitable cleaning solution is applied and given time to work, instead of raising the pressure on glazing and seals.
6. Rinse and check
Everything is rinsed with purified water so it dries without spotting, and the finished conservatory is walked with you or reported back if you are out.
Conservatories & Properties We Clean
Suitability is confirmed on inspection. Where part of a conservatory should not be washed, you are told before the work is booked.
Polycarbonate-roofed conservatories
The most common type locally, and the type that greens up the fastest. Cleaned with a soft brush rather than anything abrasive.
Glass-roofed conservatories
Including self-cleaning coated glass, which is washed gently so the coating is not scoured.
Lean-to, Victorian, Edwardian and P-shaped
Standard domestic conservatory styles, including those with decorative ridge detail.
Orangeries and garden rooms
Cleaned where the glazing and roof structure can be reached safely from the ground.
Sunrooms and glazed extensions
Glazed extensions and sunrooms are quoted in the same way as a conservatory.
Assessed case by case
Damaged panels, failed seals, leaking joints or unstable structures are reported instead of cleaned. Suitability is confirmed on inspection.
What Is Included and What Is Not Automatically Included
Conservatories vary far too much for a fixed package, so scope follows the quotation agreed for your property.
Exterior roof panels cleaned
Included where roof cleaning is part of the agreed quotation for your conservatory.
External glass, frames and sills
Commonly cleaned alongside the roof, but the scope is set per property rather than assumed.
Conservatory guttering exterior
Cleaned where a conservatory has its own guttering and it can be reached safely. Confirmed when quoting.
Clearing debris from inside gutters
Removing leaves, moss and blockages from inside guttering is gutter clearing, quoted separately.
Interior glass and roof panels
Interior cleaning is only carried out where it has been asked for, is accessible and has been agreed in advance.
Repairs, resealing or replacing panels
Cracked panels, failed seals, leaks and loose trims are reported to you, not repaired.
Restoring UV-damaged or crazed plastic
Old polycarbonate that has yellowed or crazed will improve with cleaning but cannot be returned to new.
Walking on the conservatory roof
Conservatory roofs are not load-bearing, so the work is carried out from ground level or safe access only.
What Affects the Price
- Size and style of the conservatory, and the roof area involved
- Roof type — glass or polycarbonate — and how heavy the algae or staining is
- Whether the quotation covers the roof only, or glass, frames, sills and guttering too
- Access around the conservatory: gates, planting, sloping ground, decking and neighbouring boundaries
- Whether interior panels have been requested
- Whether window cleaning or gutter clearing is booked on the same visit
